Indian Hills Resort
"For more than two decades, Indian Hills Resort has been one of my favorite places to stay. Located on big Lake Sakakawea, Indian Hills Resort offers world class hunting and fishing, great lodging and camping.
Lake Sakakawea offers legendary walleye fishing, but there's also giant northern pike, smallmouth bass, and Chinook salmon. And Indian Hills is within easy driving distance (no more than 30-minutes) of other key boat ramp locations, depending on where the best current bite happens to be. Though the fall fishing is great for all species, many come for the hunting. Indian Hills is in the midst of some of North Dakota's best pheasant and sharptail grouse hunting with a good chance at bagging a few Hungarian Partridge. There are also resident giant canada geese, and by mid to late October, the resident birds are joined by a massive influx of several races of Canada geese and snow geese too. The mallard hunting can be spectacular, whether you set up on a remote Sakakawea bay, a nearby wetland or a field set in a barley or wheat stubble field. Imagine a day where you hunt geese and pheasants in the morning and catch walleyes and big pike in the afternoon. This is truly God's country.
Indian Hills also offers boat docks, ramp, convenience store, bait and tackle, a small restaurant and professional guide service, licenses, and gas on the water.
Operated for years by pioneer Sakakawea resort owners, Byron and Tolly Holtan, Indian Hills is now under the ownership of Dale and Kelly Sorge. Kelly Jo is the Holtan's youngest daughter, and virtually grew up at the resort. She and husband Dale are doing a great job. And yes, Byron and Tolly stop by often to see old friends.
