Bruce "Wickerbill" Crist and Tony Dean pose with a near limit of prairie grouse taken on the Fort Pierre National Grasslands. The birds held tight under the light and variable winds today. Wicker has a pair of sharptails while Tony has a pair of prairie chickens. Most of the more than 25 grouse that flushed in front of the dogs today (darned near all pairs and singles) held tight on the downwind side of hills. Tony's pointing lab, Dee, even managed one successful point while hunting with Wicker's setters and shorthairs.
