The Site of "Good Oak"

This plaque on Aldo Leopold's farm near Baraboo, WI marks the spot where Aldo was inspired to write the beautiful "February" Good Oak essay, in which he used tree rings to chronicle the conservation history of Wisconsin. Buddy Huffaker of the Aldo Leopold Foundation tells us that the Chief Sawyer Leopold refers to throughout the essay was his wife, Estella.
