Kerry Knold with Typical Upper Oahe Walleyes
Kerry Konold with typical upper Oahe walleyes, taken during February in the Walth Bay area. We saw plenty of baitfish, identified as gizzard shad when Dennis Palmer caught one with a live shad in its mouth. The walleyes are plump and look like the Oahe walleyes of old. Also showing up with increasing frequency are Lake Herring, stocked originally as forage. When they reach maturity, they are great fighters and provide excellent smoking fare. We've also fried them with great results.
