I must say you did a great job capturing the essence of morel mushroom hunting. When my Dad was alive we did that a lot and he loved to eat them dearly.
As do I now.
Next time you try a bunch, cook them in butter like you did but dredge them in a mixture of flour and Morton's Nature’s Seasonings. Yum! Here in Lacrosse, they show up just when the lilacs start blooming.
With the river still 3.5 feet over flood stage (courtesy of 50% of our natural wetlands being drained) we can't fish here nor would we anyway. I'll be heading up to Mille Lacs for the Minnesota opener on May 12th to get my fishing fix.
