Walleye Bite Good on Western Devils Lake
Fishing has been great here on the western shore of Devils Lake. Our guests have been doing very well from boat and from shore. The Walleye bite has been more active than the Northern bite recently.
Big fat White Bass have been plentiful. Changeable weather has kept fishermen on their toes. Tactics change from day to day. The bite on crank bait was slow last week, but very successful in catching the big boys this week in water 10-14 feet deep.
Slip-bobber fishing has been working well. Leaches seem to be the bait of choice. The bite on nightcrawlers is picking up.
Our friend, Hank, taught us about flat bottom jigs. Hank recommends chartreuse and orange. The jigs have a flat spot, so they sit on the bottom, while the baited hook sits straight up, making a very natural looking presentation.
Recent hot spots include Howardâ?Ts Bay, the golden highway along Grahamâ?Ts Island, Pelican Lake and the north shore of Minnewaukan Flats.
Mark, Julie and I have now experienced and survived our first busy June. We were blessed to have full occupancy pretty much from the middle of May through the 4th of July. The very best part of our job is meeting interesting people from all over the country. Our greatest reward has been re-booking guests for repeat visits next year.
North Dakota is glorious this time of year. It is wonderful to drive through the countryside and see the crops beginning to flourish. Fields of sunshine yellow canola are now in bloom. The flax is just beginning to blossom. Soon we will be seeing spectacular waves of
shimmering flax that looks like an ocean of lavender. Golden wheat fields also make a beautiful sight. Of course late summer will bring acres of sunflowers to life. The beauty is hard to describe. You should plan on seeing it firsthand.
There is so much wildlife to see here also. Ducks, geese, pelicans, egrets and scads of other birds and waterfowl that I have yet to identify, can be seen in sloughs and potholes, enjoying the cattails and vegetation of the area.
We were honored to host some wonderful family reunions over the 4th of July holiday. Family members traveled from all parts of the country to spend time together here on the lake.. Our 3-bedroom group cottages are perfect for such get-togethers. Whitetail Hideout has 8 separate beds and plenty of room for all generations to have their space.
Thereâ?Ts still time to plan a visit to Devils Lake this summer or early fall. Fishing is good all the way through October. Youâ?Tll find less pressure on the lake and plenty warm days to enjoy. Our rates drop 10% after July 15, so you will find late summer a very affordable time to visit also.
Duck hunters, get your reservations set for October as we are filling up fast. If you havenâ?Tt yet experienced our world class waterfowl season, this is the year to plan a hunt. If youâ?Tre interested in a guide, we can make all the arrangements for you.
Mark, Julie and I would like to thank everyone who has responded to our website, www.spiritwaterinn.com and everyone who has come to stay with us here at Spirit Water Inn Resort. We appreciate each of our guests and truly hope that our hospitality helped to make your stay
